New Mathematics Curriculum Coming in 2017-18!

We are pleased to share with you that our school (along with several others) will be launching the use of a new mathematics curriculum in the coming school year. It is a curriculum that will be implemented in all elementary schools as of 2018-19.  As a school we chose to begin the implementation in 2017-18.

Below is some general information for you to begin learning about the curriculum as we do too. Our staff will be engaged in professional learning during summer and throughout the school year to build our capacity and skills to effectively serve our students.

Watch for additional learning opportunities throughout the 2017-18 school year, for families to learn strategies to best support your child(ren) in mathematics.

Building Mathematical Thinkers

Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive K–5 curriculum that equips teachers to fully implement the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics in a manner that is rigorous, coherent, engaging, and accessible to all learners.

The curriculum focuses on developing students’ deep understandings of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills, and ability to solve complex and novel problems. Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. It taps into the intelligence and strengths of all students by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful.
